Our Ambition

C2-Ai was founded in 2008 by Stephen Mackenney and Graham Copeland, the architect of the POSSUM surgical audit system, a world-renowned methodology for assessing clinical performance against the expected outcome for surgical patients. Our ambition is to enable every patient to have the best outcome possible through embedding clinical risk adjustment of the individual at scale in health and life sciences around the world.

Dr Sheuli Porkess, CMO, Life Sciences
  • International life sciences leader and expert in medical affairs, medicines development and innovation with 20+years’ experience.
  • Medical leadership in pharmaceutical companies across affiliate, regional and global roles.
  • Former Director of Research, Medicine and Innovation Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Leadership roles in multiple industry and cross-sector fora.
Carolyn Heaney, Director of Life Science Partnerships
  • An experienced leader in health and life sciences.  20+ years in the former Department of Health and, latterly, NHS Engagement Partner at pharmaceutical industry trade body, ABPI.
  • Held key leadership roles within and outside Government – collaborating across government, public health and care, life science sectors, education and voluntary organisations.
  • Wide exposure across health and care priorities and closer alignment of priorities and ‘triple wins’ for patients, NHS, pharmaceutical industry.
Mr Graham Copeland, CMO and Co-founder
  • A highly respected expert on patient safety as well as a general surgeon and the author of the POSSUM scoring system for surgical audit, which is utilized in over 30 countries.
  • Graham is considered an international authority, advising governments and authorities around the world on effective applications in medical practices – including the VA and on the creation of NSQIP.
  • He has over 30 years as a specialist in clinical audit and outcome measures, and was an advisor to the Caldicott Committee in the UK, the Healthcare Commission, and the National Institute of Clinical Effectiveness.
Stephen Mackenney, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder
  • A qualified lawyer with a passion for revolutionizing healthcare to improve patient outcomes while reducing costs.
  • Served at the UK Department of Health as the Senior Official responsible for Quality, Safety and Clinical Audit.
  • Led the development of UK’s first set of national Healthcare Quality Standards.

Dr Mark Ratnarajah, Managing Director, UK
  • 20+ years of experience working in NHS and business enterprises with outstanding records.
  • Former Principal for healthcare investments at Nomura Private Equity and Managing Director at 3rd largest private rehabilitation provider in UK.
Dr Mike Roberts, Medical Director, International
  • Qualified medical practitioner with extensive experience of Health System management.
  • A seasoned executive with over 20 years of global experience, having served as CMO in both the UK and New Zealand.
  • Long-term C2-Ai client who was so convinced by the technology that he asked to join the company.

Steve Barnett, Exec VP – Channels and Partnerships
  • Steve has worked in tech and software businesses for 30 years, taking three on the journey from startup to exit including building a SaaS offering from $4m to nearly $100m in only a few years.
  • Steve brings immense experience in developing channels, offers and ensuring that our range of clients are a core part of our development process.
Phil Gaffney, CTO
  • Expert in medical devices and AI.
  • Expertise in regulatory and compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Leads physical deployment architecture, security and processing design activities.
  • Successfully established and led technology businesses specializing in image analysis, advanced electronics, critical software, and medical devices.
